Fort Kinnaird is situated approximately 3.5 miles south east of the City centre in a highly prominent position adjacent to the A1 which is the main route out of Edinburgh to the south. Access from the western side of the city is via the Edinburgh City by-pass, which joins the A1 approximately one mile to the south and also links to the M8, which is the principal motorway connection between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
